    Dec 7, 2016

Hi, Leslie, you have asked a tough question. The greatest Christmas story is the story of Jesus’ birth, so that has to be at the very top of the list. After that, I can’t think of one book, movie, etc. that is my most favorite of all. I enjoy reading so I seldom read a book a second time. The same goes for movies, etc. I know some people will read the same book or watch the same movie every year. Other than the Bible, there are too many books waiting to be read for me to keep going back to the same one every Christmas. If I am selected as a winner, I hope it will be for the third or fourth set since I have the books in the first two. πŸ™‚

My favorite Christmas book is titled “The PA Dutch Night Before Christmas” by Chet Williamson. It is a parody of Twas the Night Before Christmas told in the PA Dutch style. My family is PA Dutch and we think it is hysterical. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without reading it!

  32. Evelyn Smith
    Dec 7, 2016

My most favorite Christmas movie is It’s A Wonderful Life’ because of the moral the story gives. We all have an impact on the lives of those around us.
Although there are new movies I enjoy and watch again from time to time, I pretty much stick to the Classics. Maybe because they are Classics but mainly because the story lines are so rich and personal on so many levels.

Oh, there are many! I too love Its a Wonderful Life, and I love watching Christmas Vacation. I love to laugh and with that movie, as many times as I’ve seen it, I continue to laugh as though it was the first time. A little comic relief is a great thing in these stressful days. And I love the “real” Christmas Story most of all and it humbles me each time we read it on Christmas Eve with all the grands! Have a wonderful Christmas!

Thank you for the wonderful give away! I don’t know if it is a Christmas movie but I love Meet Me in Saint Louis. I always watch it during the Christmas season and I never tire of the strong family love it portrays along with the wonderful songs. I am 65 and I remember the first time I saw it I was 8 years old and stayed up late watching television with my aunt. She was my “second” mother. She got polio when she was three years old and was paralyzed from her waist down. She was an accomplished piano, accordion player and singer. She married and had three children and was the best mother ever. She died on Christmas Eve 1980 and will forever be in my heart. That special movie makes me think of her. Merry Christmas, and I love reading your books!

The birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, is and will always be my favorite Christmas story. To share our family’s tradition with you: On Christmas morning, when we awaken, we gather at the table, where there is a birthday cake with a candle in the center. The candle is lit and we all sing happy birthday to Jesus. The youngest one blows out the candle and we all have birthday cake for breakfast. This is done BEFORE any gifts are acknowledged. This started with my grandmother and continued to be passed down. I share it so that people can start their own tradition at home of remembering what the significance of Christmas Day truly is.

Merry Christmas to you and yours, Leslie!

If you’re referring to a fictional story (the true story is the best, after all!), then I would have to say “White Christmas.” πŸ™‚ I don’t think I could ever get sick of watching that movie and enjoying that story.

I am an avid reader who fairly recently just started reading books about the Amish. I am hooked! Since I picked up my first book I just can’t seem to get enough of these stories. I’m fascinated by their way of life! Maybe because I have several neighbors who are Amish so I’ve always been curious about them. Anyway… I would love to win any one of your series, but am especially excited by The Women of Lancaster County series. Thank you for your excellent work and I look forward to reading all of your series eventually!

  133. Phyllis S
    Dec 8, 2016

Luke’s Nativity story tells the real reason we celebrate Christmas, but The Nutcracker carries a lot of significance for me as I started taking my oldest granddaughter when she was 6 years old. Then, she moved away but came back to surprise me and take me to see it 2 years ago when I turned 78.

  134. Donita Corman
    Dec 8, 2016

My favorite Christmas story non religious is Rudolph the Rednosed reindeer. It’s a story of acceptance in spite of differences and teaches that we have value here on earth. Merry Christmas

  139. Peg Fornefelt
    Dec 8, 2016

Other than the Biblical Christmas story, my favorites would have to be “It’s a Wonderful Life” because it reminds me that we don’t live in a vacuum – our families and everything we touch would be so incredibly different if we had never existed. We can’t really see what impact our lives have in this world.

  140. Barbara Collver
    Dec 8, 2016

The Bible version of the Story of Christmas in Luke, has to be my favorite. JESUS is the Reason for the season, so this is IT! As an older person, retired professional, each year this fact gets better and better! Even tho’ I enjoy other Christmas movies & books, I keep coming back to this!

    Dec 8, 2016

The Biblical story of the birth of Christ is my all time favorite Christmas story, but I also like It’s a Wonderful Life. “Life” can bog us down in the details and dailyness to the point where we can’t see our blessings, or how God is minute by minute guiding our way. I love the reminder to look for the blessing.

  144. Marie
    Dec 8, 2016

For books/stories I like The Fourth Wiseman and Marjorie Holmes Two From Galilee. For songs my pick is Beautiful Star of Bethlehem. The reason I picked these is because to me they share the essence of Christmas.

I now love the movie and made my three boys watch it until they like it too. (Although at 21, 18 and 15 they might not admit it.)

I would have to say 12 Men of Christmas because it has all the greats of a story to be made-romance, adventure and cute guys. This movie has created such a love of small towns in Montana such as Kalispell. I have always wanted to go and see what the country life is like especially in the Christmas season with a fresh cut tree, decorating, christmas tree lighting, small christmas eve service with lights, giving presents and just really celebrating Christ’s birth. Merry Christmas Leslie! My favorite song is Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.

My favorite story is the Christmas story, because it’s the reason that we celebrate at all. As far as fiction? I’d have to say It’s a Wonderful Life because it shows how one person’s life can connect with and change so many others. It reminds me that every life is important, and we never may know how a chance encounter can change someone else’s life.

Of course the story of Jesus’s birth but I remember always reading The Night before Christmas before going to bed as a child. I’ve since started reading it to my children on Christmas Eve.

My favorite Christmas story is The Little Drummer Boy. I love the story it tells, about just giving what you have to Christ. It reminds me that God is looking for my heart and not material belongings and to share my heart with others.

For a movie I’d say Christmas with the Kranks. For a book, Merry Humbug Christmas, by Sandra D. Bricker

I always love to see a Christmas Play about the birth of Christ…and the other one I like is the Nutcracker ballet

Thank you for all of these comments! All of you have added to the spirit of Christmas, of Christ’s birth, for me. I love that his story is our foundation–but that so many more stories of all sorts add to his message.

The giveaway is now closed. I’ll post the winners in the next post!
