Please enjoy this guest post from Suzanne Woods Fisher and enter to win a copy of Life with Lily! I have three to give away. “Put the swing where the children want it. The grass will grow back.” Amish proverb I’ve often heard that there is no better childhood than an Amish one. Mary Ann Kinsinger had such a childhood. She was raised in a happy Old Order Amish home in western Pennsylvania. A born storyteller, Mary Ann started a blog, A Joyful Chaos, as a way to capture the joy of her childhood. A Joyful Chaos quickly gained a following among those who want to know more about the Amish. Here was a blog of a woman who had recently left the Amish church, but without bitterness or rancor. Just the opposite. Mary Ann’s blog captures what readers are looking...

Interview with Susan Meissner

Interview with Susan Meissner

Interview with SUSAN MEISSNER Author of The Girl in The Glass as well as A Sound Among the Trees and The Shape of Mercy   It’s a pleasure having award-winning novelist Susan Meissner here with us today to talk about her newest book from WaterBrook Press, The Girl in the Glass, a part-contemporary, part historical novel set in Florence, Italy 1. Susan, tell us where the idea for this story came from. For our 25th wedding anniversary a few years ago my husband and I took a much-anticipated eight-day Mediterranean cruise. One of the ports of call on the Italy side was close enough to Florence to hop on a bus and spend the day there. When I stepped onto Florentine pavement I fell head over heels in love. There is something magical about Florence that I...

Susan Messiener’s latest novel, The Girl in the Glass, is a must read

I finished The Girl in the Glass by Susan Meissner in a day—I couldn’t put it down. Set in Florence, the novel tells two parallel stories, one set in the present and the other during the time of the Medici family. Not only had my oldest daughter traveled to Florence recently, but so had one of my best friends. Both, of course, raved about the city. I’ve been to Italy but not Florence. The Girl in the Glass made me want to go all the more. Susan does an amazing job making the city a character in the story and bringing both the art and the history of the area alive. As the main character, Meg, works through the disappointments of her relationship with her father, the character from over 400 years ago works through her...

Join me for a book signing on October 4th

I would love to have you join me at a book signing on October 4th, 6:30 to 8:30pm, in downtown Portland at the Embassy Suites, 319 SW Pine St. with a group of amazing authors, including Melanie Dobson. She isn’t on the poster below so make sure and visit her website. She’s one of my all-around favorite writers and people, plus she’s in my critique group. How cool is that?! She’ll be selling and signing her novel, Where the Trail Ends. Yes, it’s about the Oregon Trail! Speaking of trails…David Jackson, the DJ for the Portland Trail Blazers, will be at the event, too, selling and signing his book. My friend Jennifer Anne Messing will also be there, along with Catherine Leggitt and Janice Rice. It’s going to be a wonderful...
